The law was passed on August 12th of 2016, and stated all children less than two years of age must be buckled into a car set that faces to the rear. For one year anyone not in compliance received a warning from the police, and the year has now expired. The law was designed to prevent the fatalities of children in car accidents.
A fine of $125 is in effect for anyone violating this law. Children older than two but younger than eight are required to be seated in a booster seat until they reach eighty pounds or four feet and nine inches. A fine of $75 is in effect for violators of this law. The seat must fit properly into the vehicle and be installed in accordance with the child’s weight and height. Inspection sites are available to make certain the seating is correctly installed. All passengers should wear seat belts. This is the fourth state to pass this type of law for child safety.
